We’ve all been there, questioning whether or not there was room for just one more person (aka you!) in the ______(fill in the blank)______ industry/field/space. And the answer (even if you don’t tell yourself this at the time) is….yes.
Yes, there is enough work/interest/passion to go around if you are dedicated to that craft, focused on doing the best that you and only you can do, and passionate about staying true to what you love.
It may come as a surprise to you, but I’m not the only blogger on the web, Harvey is not the only Sharperrier out there (he actually comes from a litter of 7), and I’m not the only one taking an endless amount of photos of my pooch (there are plenty of crazy others).
There, the cat is out of the bag…in the canine world.
All of the above are indeed facts, and at times, have comes as personal challenges for me. We all yearn for the superlative of “best” in our lifetimes (and if you don’t, you are lying to yourself) and when it doesn’t happen – or happen in the way we’d like it to happen – we often deem ourselves unworthy, failures, and more importantly, we give up.
In time, I’ve slowly started to realize that the claim of “best” no longer drives me in my work, relationships or general happinesses. It’s no longer about being superior, but more so about being quality. Yes others may have more followers, more likes, more views, more money, more resources, more everything, but no one…not a single one…will have my exact point of view. It’s now my responsibility to take that vision and transfer it to my unique biz endeavors.
And so, I encourage you all to think about a time where you thought to yourself “I’m not good enough” or “no one will care what I have to say/do/make/offer” and reassess. The market may be over-saturated (and will likely always be), but don’t let that keep you from forging ahead, making a new path and sharing your unique talents and skills.
From books, to shops, to design, there will always be someone else doing exactly what you’re doing, but never in the same exact way. Now it’s your turn to set the unique levels on high and make…it…happen.
I hope it’s a thought full weekend for everyone!
