We are hitting the road!! Me and Mr. Harvey are packing up the car and taking to the open road up the coast and through the majestic forests of the beautiful state of California starting on Nov.1.
I haven’t driven up the coast of of Cali since 1994 and I’m sure a few things have changed since then. And I’ve never been to any (California or other) national parks, so it’s time we check that off our list.
We have such a fun dog-friendly itinerary planned and you can definitely follow along via Twitter, Facebook and Instagram!
So where are we headed? Check out our itinerary….
Start …………. La La Land
01 …………….. Pismo Beach
02 …………….. Cambria
03 …………….. Santa Cruz
04 …………….. San Francisco
05 …………….. Healdsburg
06 …………….. Yosemite National Park
07 …………….. Sequoia National Forest
There will be a lot of picture taking, a lot of relaxation and a lot of memories. We hope you’ll join us along the way! If you have any recommendations and must-sees, please share them in the comments!!
And wait…there is something in it for you too!
We’re giving away some awesome dog travel products from our friends at Olive! Stay tuned for the details tomorrow!
Happy trails and we’ll see you on the road!
xo,
Steph + Harvey

San Luis Obispo is the most interesting thing on the Central Coast and I’m not just saying that because I’m from there. If you don’t eat at Novo downtown, you’re nuts. They have a patio out back with heaters if it’s cool and it’s dog friendly. Seriously the best food I’ve practically ever had and I’ve been to a lot of really great restaurants.
Also, skip the chain coffee places (Tullys, Starbucks, etc) in favor or Linnaeas (esp if you’re vegetarian) or Black Horse Espresso (esp if you’re into caramel–they make the caramel for their caramel macchiato in house). And here’s a newish place on Chorro called Atmodsphere that carries Blu Dot and other standards, but also the furniture of Jory Brigham Design upstairs. Seriously amazing wood furniture. The whole downtown SLO area is wonderful–about ten blocks between Santa Rosa and Nipomo on Higuera, Marsh and Monterey Streets.
If you’re really looking for beach, try Avila Beach instead of Pismo. It’s less crowded and tends to stay warmer and less foggy because it’s in a cove. Cambria is very touristy, and mostly touristy for old people. Unless you’re going to Hearst Castle, I’d spend more time in SLO.
Have fun!
Thanks so much for the wonderful recommendations!
If you need a great bite to eat and you’re close to Los Alamos stop at Bell Street Cafe…
We will definitely try!! Thanks!

Bakersfield–my hometown–didn’t make the cut? If you want to hear the best country music outside of Nashville, or eat the best Basque cuisine outside of Europe, Bako is your spot.
