Have you heard of Martin Usborne? Well let me tell you about him, his incredible photography and the beautiful message he is spreading.
Although Martin started off his career in television, it is behind the camera lens that I think he produces his best work. I was recently introduced to his work when I found his (now fully funded) Kickstarter campaign a couple months back. I had made a personal note to check back in weeks time to see if the campaign was a success and (hazaah!) indeed it was.
His project, “Dogs in Cars,” is a photographic book series that captures vivid images of dogs…well…in cars. But the brilliant thing about these photos is that Martin not only captures the physical space of these dogs in these vehicles, but he captures their sense of emotion. He gives the voiceless a voice. As Martin said himself,
“When I started this project I knew the photos would be dark. What I didn’t expect was to see so many subtle reactions by the dogs: some sad, some expectant, some angry, some dejected.”
In addition to his “Dogs in Cars” series, Martin has also captured the world of dog showing at the Crufts Dog Show in England, which you should definitely check out as well.
I think these photos are a beautiful ode to the companions and confidants we share so many emotions with on the daily. And they speak honestly about the sometimes lonely nature of being a dog. Thanks for such beautiful work Martin. And stay tuned for the release of his book…hopefully sometime soon.
